Project JOLT (Joint Operators Logistics Trial) was highly commended in The Engineer Magazine’s ‘Collaborate to Innovate’ awards on 27th February, 2025.
Project JOLT is an ambitious initiative aimed at accelerating the electrification of the UK’s heavy goods vehicles, spearheaded by The Centre for Sustainable Road Freight (SRF) and funded entirely by the participating companies, through in-kind and cash contributions.
Despite the fact that JOLT is in its very early stages of field testing electric HGVs, the project was recognized for its novel collaboration between the logistics industry, truck OEMs, two universities (Heriot-Watt and Cambridge) and a number of small specialist companies involved in electric trucking.
David Cebon, Director of the project and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cambridge said: ‘Project JOLT is about sharing resources: By sharing the costs, we make the research affordable for everyone. By sharing the data, we maximize the benefits and the learning. We are delighted to have been recognised by the judges of the Collaborate to Innovate Awards, for the way we are working with our industry partners on this exciting project.’
